THERE'S A RIOT GOIN' ON - A REIMAGINING OF A CLASSIC

We are thrilled to welcome Darrell M. McNeill and Mo Beasley to the program to talk about the upcoming concert that reimagines Sly and The Family Stone’s dark masterpiece, There’s A Riot Going On. In addition to the concert at Webster Hall in New York City, HeadCount and the NAACP will be onsite to facilitate voter registration and to distribute voter education materials.

McNeill works principally as a producer, musician, composer, arranger, contractor, promoter, critic, journalist, and self-described historian and ethnomusicologist. He is also the director of operations for the Black Rock Coalition (BRC), a grassroots 501c3 advocacy, promotion, and production nonprofit for artists of color who defy the music industry’s stereotypical constructs regarding Black music. Beasley is an award-winning performance artist, playwright, author, music scholar, and youth development specialist. Accomplished in the fields of race, art and culture, masculinity, sex-positive awareness, and youth development, Beasley is also a counselor, workshop facilitator, and consultant working with colleges, universities, and non-profits for more than nearly 30 years.

Don’t miss this illuminating hour of conversation and music on the next Backstage Stories.
