Brooklyn City Councilmember Jumaane Williams won the Public Advocate's seat in New York City on Tuesday. With 33% of the vote, he soared over the enormous field of 17 contestants, which included former Speaker of the City Council, Melissa Mark-Viverito. Williams is filling a seat vacated by Leticia James, who was elected in November 2018 to the position of New York State Attorney General.
