Today marks the 46th anniversary of the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision which affirmed the right to safe and legal abortions on January 21, 1973. It is now the date when NYS passed the Reproductive Health Act. It codifies abortion rights protections from Roe v. Wade, as well as legislation to require insurers to cover contraceptives.
In Albany, New York Senate Majority Leader Andrea Stewart Cousins stood alongside members of the NYS Senate and NYS Assembly and health advocates including Roe v. Wade Attorney Sarah Weddington to announce passage of the bill.
