A pipe bomb exploded in Manhattan’s Chelsea neighborhood last night injuring 29 people. All of the injured are now out of the hospital.
Police and the FBI are investigating and reviewing area surveillance video. The NYPD asks for anyone with information to phone Crime Stoppers 1-800 222 TIPS.
Another bomb, an unexploded device in a pressure cooker with wires and a cell phone attached, was found on 27th Street and removed by a bomb squad robot last night. Governor Cuomo said it seems to be similar to the bomb that exploded.
The Governor called the bombing a terrorist attack but said there’s no link as of yet to international terrorism. Mayor de Blasio called the attack intentional. Authorities emphasized that there is no need for panic and that additional security measures are in place throughout the City.
Agents at Quantico are examining the explosive devices as well as a pipe bomb explosion in New Jersey. This was at Seaside Park in advance of a charity 5k race. NJ Governor Chris Christie said no one was injured.
